Aloha and welcome to the first episode of Enchanted Tiki Travel!

My name is Erica Duran and I’m a Fortune 50 executive turned international freedom-based business and lifestyle mentor.

And I also own a travel concierge service called Enchanted Tiki Travel.

I’m here at the Margaritaville Resort in Florida, basically right across the street from Walt Disney World.

I’ll be staying in one of their cute cottages for over a year.

I sold everything I owned in 2004 to work from anywhere, travel, and “live” places that sponsored my content.

I started the travel business mostly because it sounded like fun, I could use all the content I get from traveling for it, and the clients I was business coaching needed the support to run their VIP Days, retreats, in-person boot camps, events, book tours, etc.

At Enchanted Tiki Travel we can book almost any vacation or business trip or event.

But I primarily book Hawaii, Disney, Margaritaville, and a lot of cruises.

I even offer in-person guided tours of Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida.

So since I’ve lived several years in both states, I can help you and your family get the most out of your time in the parks, save a ton of money, and share all the local secrets with you.

So I will mostly be speaking about these destinations (Hawaii, Disney Parks, Florida, Cruises, and the Margaritaville Properties)

We’ll also be covering other travel and Disney news and events.

Things like travel hacks, tips, reviews on restaurants and resorts, and the art of minimalism.

I’ve been a super hard-core minimalist for about 17 years now - everything I own fits in my Jeep.

And that is a big reason why we always say at Enchanted Tiki Travel to “Collect Magical Moments, Not Things!”

For those of you who might be interested in opening a travel business - I’d like to support you with that too.

In fact, reach out right now on social media, or in the comments, or use the contact form on my website, or even email me at erica@enchantedtikitravel.com if you are interested at all in becoming a travel concierge or an authorized Disney Travel Agent - I’d love to tell you the inside scoop and who knows - we may even work together.

I know a lot of other Disney agencies, that I’ve researched, put you through a lot of rigmarole, applications - and all kinds of stuff, and then they don’t even give you the marketing guidance or support to get your first bookings.

Anyway, I thought this podcast would be fun and allow me to talk about things that don’t really fit on my other two podcasts.

I also host one called Paid For Your Presence™, which is a long-form podcast.

And Paid For Your Presence™ Wiki.

“Wiki" means “quick” is Hawaiian so those episodes are daily, but they are only 2-5 minutes each.

Now, this podcast, Enchanted Tiki Travel, and video stream was supposed to launch last year, but with Covid-19 (which I actually caught it twice) and travel coming to a halt in most countries - I thought it wasn’t the best time to release a travel-focused show.

So instead I focused on other projects like developing my Paid For Your Presence™ Method.

Now, I have a free masterclass going all right now, all about the Paid For Your Presence™ Method if you are interested.

You can register at https://www.ericaduarn.co/getpaid.

And for this first episode of the Enchanted Tiki Travel podcast, I thought it would be fun to share my life and all the connections that I’ve had with Disney through the years.

Now I know most people listening and watching this show are probably watching because of the Disney-esk name

So my connection with Disney started before I was even born.

My parents met at Disneyland, California in the 1960s at a dance that they used to have in Tomorrowland.

Disneyland used to have live music and dances for local teenagers back then.

So then I was born in 1974 and grew up in Southern California as an only child

And back then getting into the park was at a very reasonable cost - just a few dollars and then you could be in the park and then you paid for each ride through A-E tickets.

So my mother took me to the park a few times per month - sometimes just to walk around and soak up the vibe without getting on any of the attractions.

Of course, we went to all the Disney movies that were released in our town, and most of my toys and things were Disney.

I would read a ton of Disney biographies and Disney trivia books as a child - obsessed really.

My mother was also a travel agent and would take me to Hawaii, on cruises, and everywhere else her and her familiarization tours took her.

What is weird - I only went to Walt Disney World in Florida twice as a child - at age 13 and then again around 16.

Back then, I don’t think my parents understood how much bigger and different it Walt Disney World was from Disneyland in California where we lived.

I also bugged my dad endlessly to get a job transfer and move us to Florida.

As soon as I was old enough to work in the state of California, I tried out for the face characters

Being a starving college student at the time - I had found out that the other employees actually made quite a bit more money than the face characters

And honestly, I’m not that fond of children (so being a character would have really not been the right move for me.

I then applied to Disney’s College Program.

Technically, I was a year too early for the program when I showed up at their orientation.

But the lady that was running the event liked that I was so determined.

The next day she set up a meeting for me at the old Casting offices on Katella Ave. and I was hired to work in the Fantasyland/Toon Town Restaurant Department - mainly at the Carnation Plaza Garden Restaurant (which is no longer there).

Within six months I became a manager - or as Disney Parks calls it a “Working Lead”.

I worked at the park for over five years while I was in college for a hospitality degree - in Hotel and Restaurant Management at Cal Poly Pomona.

Then, I met my first husband at my work location, Carnation, who was also a Cast Member and we had a full-blown Disney wedding

We took engagement photos with the characters in the park and at the Disneyland Hotel.

We had the reception at the Disneyland Hotel near where all those huge waterfalls used to be.

I rode the monorail in my wedding dress so that we could take photos in the park and in front of the castle.

Then we went on a complete two-week Walt Disney World Honeymoon.

Then, after I got married and graduated college I wanted to go into the hotel industry, and there were some politics going on in my department at Disneyland that I didn’t agree with so I resigned.

Shortly after that, I got divorced and then remarried quickly.

This time we opted though for an extremely large Titanic-themed wedding but we still had a Walt Disney World honeymoon and attached a Caribbean Disney Cruise.

After the honeymoon, I started working at several different hotels around Orange County, CA and going to the park on the weekends.

First, I was the front desk manager, then revenue manager, then I moved up to assistant general manager, then went into sales and marketing for vacation ownership (or better knows as timeshare) as the National Sales Director for Hawaii and the Western Region of the U.S.

This last job didn’t have that same hospitality feel - it was more like an office job which meant nicer hours, but a lot more politics.

I walked out on my executive job at lunchtime one day and never looked back.

From about 2004 to 2018 I didn’t engage with Disney at all actually - not all all.

No trips to the parks.

I didn’t see the movies when they came out.

I lived practically 10 minutes to Disneyland and just avoided it for all those years.

I was living off and on in Hawaii and Arizona.

I was completely focused on my entrepreneurial ventures and many life obstacles and setbacks including yet another divorce.  Yikes, right?

In fact, we even broke up at Downtown Disney, California at the Uva Bar!

If you can believe that.

It sounds bad.  So many divorces in so little time - but I’m not one to settle - life is short.

Plus, I was growing so much as an entrepreneur.

And when someone is growing and taking risks and the other person is not willing to grow or take as many risks - it puts a strain.

Then, out of the blue in 2018 I was going through a tough time and I stumbled on some Disney YouTube videos and vlogs, and it just kind of sort of rekindled my interest somehow when I was going through that tough time.

I caught up on all that had happened with the Disney company while I was gone - all the changes they made at the parks, etc.

So you are not going to believe this… but I got married for the third time!

This time in Hawaii at Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa on a whim after receiving a proposal at the Blue Bayou Restaurant in Disneyland California on my birthday.

Now, instead of honeymooning at Disney World, we decided to move across-country and live in the former Disney-created town of Celebration.

Disney built this town in 1994 - a full residential town - but has since sold it off But Celebration still has a very strong Disney vibe and is located at the end of World Drive in Walt Disney World.

I had always wanted to live there since they created it when I was just out of high school and now was my chance since I have been location independent - working location independent - since 2004.

So I reacquainted myself with Walt Disney World and now that it wasn’t just a vacation but we practically lived there, I could try all the restaurants and everything else and then share that with my audience and travel concierge clients.

After being in that Celebration house for a year with the Covid pandemic going on, I left Celebration for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live at the Margaritaville Resort in Florida for an entire year!

Although this resort isn’t owned by Disney it actually seems closer than even being in Celebration.

I can see Mt. Everest from the end of my street and I can walk to Animal Kingdom!

Now, that the travel industry is recovering from the Covid crisis and people from all over the world are ready to get back out there, to experience life and create memories, I thought that now would be the time to finally launch this show.

I would love to help you plan and book any travel you may have in mind.
